Predator Free Wellington will provide community back-yard trapping groups with modified Victor traps and trap boxes. You will need to get your trap from one of these groups, we won’t be handing out traps to individual households, but providing the groups traps to manage in their communities. Find your local group here.
We have started by making traps available to groups throughout the city, though our initial focus is to support groups on the Miramar Peninsula to become predator free. This provides the opportunity to trial, learn and adapt as we progress. We’re already seeing communities throughout Wellington getting onboard with the predator-free movement and we hope to support more as the project ramps up.
All traps supplied by Predator Free Wellington will meet the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (NAWAC) standards so we can be sure they will be the most humane traps we can provide.
We do ask, that in return for the use of the traps you provide your local group with data about what you trap, and where you get them. Also, many of the community trapping groups have funding to provide traps so contact your local one.
