Mission "Impossible" with Youtuber Tom Scott

Tom Scott is a science and technology Youtuber whose channel features educational videos across a range of topics and locations around the world – and now our project is on that list!

The common wisdom is that, once an invasive species is truly established it can’t be eradicated… but we had the opportunity to explain why we think we can do just that.

The video features Emma, one of our operational specialists. She shared with Tom some of our tools in our eradication network, including DOC200 traps, and monitoring devices like chewcards and detex.

It was also an opportunity to share with Tom’s 5.8 million subscribers information about the Predator Free 2050 kaupapa. This must’ve really hit home with him, as he ended the video saying, ‘Kaitiakitanga: it seems to be part of New Zealand’s identity in a way that I don’t think I’ve seen in any other country I’ve been to. If anyone can pull this [PF2050] off, it’s going to be New Zealand.’

The video currently has over five million views! To share our mahi on such a large scale to an international audience was a true privilege.
