The rat-free areas of Wellington
How much of the city have we cleared of rats? This chart shows the total and our progress in Phases 1 and 2. It lists how many hectares we’ve cleared of rats, are actively working in, and we’re yet to reach (‘not yet active’). The Basin Reserve field is about 1.5 hectares.
Suburb information for Phases 1 and 2
Learn more about your suburb, including the number of households that signed up and how many rats were caught. We also use toxic bait which removes the majority of rats.

See where your home fits in Phase 2. We’ve divided this area into 33 zones (‘A3’, ‘D8’, etc) which may overlap suburb boundaries. Phase 1 (Miramar Peninsula) is complete! We’ll include Phases 3, 4 and 5 once we get closer to working in those areas.
